Job Title: Professional Dog Trainer
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Professional Dog Trainer to join our team. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of canine behavior, is skilled in a variety of positive training techniques, and possesses excellent interpersonal skills for working with clients. This role is responsible for conducting training sessions, developing customized training plans, and educating dog owners on how to continue reinforcing good behavior at home.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct behavioral assessments of new dogs to identify training needs and temperament.
- Develop and implement personalized training plans for individual dogs and their owners.
- Lead group obedience and socialization classes for puppies and adult dogs.
- Provide one-on-one, in-home training sessions to address specific behavioral issues such as aggression, anxiety, or hyperactivity.
- Teach dog owners how to effectively communicate with their dogs and reinforce learned commands using positive techniques.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of each dog's training progress.
- Communicate proactively with clients to provide progress updates and answer questions.
- Clean and maintain all training areas and equipment to ensure a safe environment.
- Stay current with the latest dog training methods, equipment, and industry best practices.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of professional dog training experience.
- Certification: Professional certification from a recognized organization (e.g., CPDT-KA, CCPDT, IAABC) is strongly preferred.
Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of canine behavior, body language, and learning theory.
- Proficiency in positive reinforcement and other humane training techniques.
- Ability to handle dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments safely and effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills for addressing challenging behaviors.
Soft Skills:
- Exceptional communication and teaching skills for instructing pet owners.
- High level of patience and empathy for both dogs and their owners.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Comfortable with public speaking for group class instruction.
Working Conditions
- Environment: Work is performed in various settings, including indoor training facilities, outdoor parks, and clients' homes. May be exposed to various weather conditions.
- Physical Demands: Must be able to stand, walk, and run for extended periods. The ability to lift and carry dogs of various sizes is required.
